British Coin Conversion

Transferring money?
A friend saw a reference to British Shilling "money" and wonders what is a Shilling "is" in American money? He thinks that the piece is no longer used, but maybe someone can give us an idea?
The old British shilling was 1 / 20 of a book. They were struck until 1969 and again distributed as parts 5 pence for some thereafter. For many years (until World War 2), the pound was fixed at U.S. $ 4.80, to so that a shilling was U.S. $ 0.24 at the time. Currently, 5 British pence is about 9 cents.
